You will often find Sallie baking biscuits on a Sunday afternoon to fill packed lunches. A delicious alternative to plastic-wrapped bars. These chocolate biscuits are a family favourite and Sallie doubles the quantities to make enough for the week.
1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees. Beat the butter, essence and sugars in a small bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy; beat in egg. Stir in the flours, chocolate buttons, nuts and milk.
2. Drop heaped tablespoons of mixture onto lightly greased oven trays. Bake in moderate oven about 12 minutes or until firm and lightly browned.
3. Stand on trays for 5 minutes before lifting onto wire racks to cool. Store in an air-tight container.
